Challenge Students Visit Jekyll Island

3rd Grade Girls at Jekyll IslandOver 20 students in grades 3-5 of the Parkside Challenge Program ventured to Jekyll Island for a 3 day field trip this week. Students, teachers, parents and grandparents stayed at the Jekyll 4H Center and participated in a variety of daily classes, lectures and adventures which focused on marine biology and other core science areas.

Quotes overheard from students included “Can we stay here forever?” “I love science!” “Ewwww” and “This is so cool.” Whether they were sloshing through the muddy marsh or hiking through the woods in the dark of night, students and adults alike all returned with a greater, deeper and more complex understanding of subjects such as erosion, metamorphosis, life cycles and marine life.

A big THANKS to Dr. Donerlson and Mrs. Walston, our Parkside Challenge teachers, for coordinating such an amazing fieldtrip!
