Congressman John Lewis Visits Parkside During the 2008 Mock Vote

Parkside was honored to host civil rights pioneer and Congressman, John Lewis, during Thursdays National Student Mock Vote.  Over 600 students could be heard all around campus asking “Did you vote?” as they proudly displayed their Georgia Voter stickers.  12 of the schools 40 MacBook laptops were set up as electronic voting booths, and students were allowed to vote electronically as well as by paper ballot.  

Congressman Lewis watched as students voted and praised Principal Phillip Luck for instilling the importance of voting in our nations youngest learners. The Congressman also gave impromptu mini-history lessons to students about the March on Washington, the importance of voting and how they can visit him in Washington, D.C.  

A big thank you to the chair of this years Mock Vote, Media Specialist Stephanie Gwinn.  And hugs all around to our dedicated staff members, including Mrs. Walston, Mrs. Dottery, Mrs.Thomas, Mrs. Haynes and Mr. Luck for ensuring a flawless day of voting.
